We crossed the border into Honduras at Copan Ruïnas, a very quiet place. Because of the safety situation in Honduras, where a lot of "quicknappings" occur (you are held up at gunpoint, taken hostage for a trip to various ATM's and released afterwards), and because we are a little bit on a tight schedule wanting to cross the Darien gap end of july we decided to speed through Honduras. The morning after our arrival we visited the Copan ruïns, which were much nicer than we anticipated. A lot of very fine statues and rock carvings with more detail than you will find in Tikal. After our visit we rode on the main roads to Comayagua, a little town known from the prison fire in which 359 people died earlier this year. The town has a nice little colonial center with a pleasant square where you can sit and enjoy Comayagua every day life. We spent the night there and the next day we crossed the border at Las Manos into Nicaragua.
