We got an email from a shipping company that we could share a container with other people to ship our bikes to Colombia. There was only one problem: we had to be in Panama city the next day at 9 am. So we did a monster ride from Dominical, Costa Rica to Panama city in one day, including a three hour border crossing. We share a container with a couple of Argentinians. We did the whole shipping procedure together: police inspection, customs authorization and loading the container. On August 7th we will fly ourselves to Cartagena, Colombia to pick up the bikes. In the meanwhile we are checking out Panama city. It is a nice city with state of the art high rises and very poor areas next to eachother. It also has a very nice old town, the casco antiguo, that is being restored thoroughly. It has to be ready before 2014 when the Panama Canal has its 100th annyversary. We are staying in Hotel Latino, where a very colorful collection of people resides: latino love birds, hookers, hospital patients, gays and an enlightened Sjaman who got taken away by the police when he nearly set his room on fire while performing his rituals.
