Founded by Stamford Raffles and independent since 1965 the city state of Singapore flourishes on the southern the tip of the Malayan peninsula. In a few decades it has developed into the main South East Asian trading hub. There is some stunning architecture in the CBD area. Unfortunately it is very expensive because everybody in Singapore is rich. That is to say everybody seems rich. There is also less well off foreign labour force, mainly Indians, to do the dirty jobs. Like the Malaysian cities Singapore is a melting pot of different cultures with a China town, a Little India and a Arab street. Also a lot of westeners work and live in Singapore. The owner of my guest house Ali has worked for 25 years in Holland so it was very convenient to speak Dutch again for a while.
